Code Enforcement and Building Permit
Building Permits ARE Required – See file below.
In New York State, the construction of buildings, including alterations, renovations and additions, is regulated by Title 9 Volume B, New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, of the Official Compilation of Codes Rules and Regulations of the State of New York (NYCRR). The code is administered at the state level by the New York Department of State.
By state law, each town is responsible for enforcing the Code within its boundaries. In Brighton, that duty is administered through the Code Enforcement Officer (CEO). Specifically, the CEO is required to inspect a building project before, during and after construction in order to ensure compliance with the Code. A Building Permit must be obtained from the CEO before starting a construction project. Office hours, Wednesdays, 1 -4 pm.
